NLPARM

Subcase Information Entry The NLPARM command can be used to activate nonlinear solution methods for this subcase and to select the parameters used for Nonlinear Static Analysis, and Nonlinear Direct Transient Analysis.

Format

NLPARM (lgdisp) = option

Definitions

Argument Options Description
lgdisp LGDISP

Default: Comment 4

LGDISP
Large Displacement Nonlinear Static Analysis is activated for the subcase that contains this NLPARM entry.
option <SID>

No default

SID
Set identification of an NLPARM Bulk Data Entry.

Comments

  1. NLPARM Bulk Data Entries will not be used unless selected in the Subcase Information section.
  2. If present above the first subcase, it is applied to all linear static subcases. Nonlinear Static Analysis subcases, by their definition, will already have an NLPARM reference which is used.
  3. The NLPARM command is supported in Nonlinear Static Analysis, Nonlinear Direct Transient Analysis and optimization subcases.
  4. If LGDISP is not specified as an argument to NLPARM in a subcase, Large Displacement Analysis is not activated for this subcase. However, if PARAM, LGDISP, 1 is used, Large Displacement Analysis is activated for all subcases containing NLPARM in the model.
  5. The NLCTRL Bulk Data and Subcase Information Entries can be used instead of NLPARM Bulk Data and Subcase Information Entries as an alternate way to control nonlinear implicit convergence criteria. Both NLPARM and NLCTRL cannot be specified together in the same nonlinear implicit subcase.
  6. Detailed convergence check information for implicit nonlinear subcases, increments, and Newton-Raphson iterations are printed in the _nl.out file. Additional options for checking Nonlinear Analysis run information and monitoring progress of Nonlinear Implicit Analysis jobs are listed in Runtime Monitoring in the User Guide.
