CAD Based Solution

The classical way of defining a solution is by adding mesh bodies to a solution followed by assigning material, and boundary conditions on mesh bodies. If there is any change in CAD model, one must repeat the process of creating the mesh bodies, adding the mesh bodies to the solution, assigning material and boundary conditions to the new mesh bodies. Defining the solution for each design change is interactive, time consuming and repetitive. However, this can be simplified by scripting the process which requires the skills to automate.

In SimLab 2024, CAD bodies and mesh settings can be added to a solution. In addition, material property, and boundary conditions can also be assigned to CAD bodies. The solving process automatically meshes the CAD to create mesh bodies, transfers the material and boundary conditions to the mesh bodies and solves. Since the model setup happens on CAD this is referred to as “CAD-based solution”. Designers can change design parameters and regenerate the CAD model. The solving process that uses “CAD-based solution” eliminates the interactive way of defining the solutions for each design change and thereby makes design study very easy.

Following are the solutions that are supported to add CAD bodies to define CAD-based solutions.

  1. Drop test solution using Radioss solver.
  2. Electromagnetic solution.
  3. Electronics thermal solution.

Parametric finite element model

There are use cases where designers want to solve a problem by making changes to the physics definition like material property, boundary conditions, etc. Users can define parameters and refer to them when defining material, boundary conditions, etc. This creates a finite element model that is parametrized, called “Parametric finite element model”.

Parametric Solution

When a parametric CAD is added to a solution and if the model setup is parametrized then we get “Parametric Solution” where CAD and physics definitions, are parametrized. This further simplifies the design study, optimization, and the steps to create necessary data for Physics AI.
