NX Import Options

SimLab supports import of NX files upto version NX 2412 series. Various import options in NX are explained below.

  • Body Type

NX part file can have solids and sheets. User can choose to import either or both of solid and sheet into SimLab.

  • Units

User can select the unit system in which the NX file need to be imported in SimLab.

  • Groups

Groups in the STEP file can be imported as SimLab groups using this option and it is only supported for SimLab Reader method.

  • Options

The named entities like surface and edge in NX part can be imported into SimLab as groups by enabling the option "Import groups". This group information can be used to assign mesh control and subsequently transferred to FEM Bodies to assign loads and boundary condition.

Grouping surface and edges and renaming design parameters in NX

NX files with assembly structure can be imported by enabling the "Import assembly structure" toggle. Refer the following link to know more about Assembly Structure.

Materials assigned to part can be imported by selecting the toggle "Import material". The part should have been assigned a name to import material associated to it.

Renamed parameters in NX part preceding with "SL_" will be read into SimLab as "Design Parameters" by default, subsequently the model can be regenerated based on those parameters. To regenerate the part, right click on the model in the assembly tree and choose the regenerate option. The parameters will be listed out in the regenerate dialog box. If design parameters are not present, then the model can be edited using CAD editing tools.

Note: If unit system is enabled, unit for parameter of type “Length” and “Angle” will be read into SimLab. All other parameters will be imported as unitless parameter.
