Parasolid Import Options

SimLab supports import of Parasolid files up to version Parasolid V37.1.153. Various import options in Parasolid are explained below.

  • Body Type:
    • Solid: 3dimension body can be imported by selecting the Solid option.
    • Sheet: 2dimension body can be imported by selecting the Sheet option.
    • Wire: 1dimension body can be imported by selecting the Wire option.
    • Connected body: Non-manifold, Mixed dimension and Cellular bodies (bodies with multiple volumes) can be imported by selecting Connected body option.
  • Units

Parasolid files are generally in meters. User can import the Parasolid file into SimLab in following unit systems: meter, millimeter or inch.

  • Facets

Parasolid files can be imported directly as faceted geometry.

  • Groups

Groups in the Parasolid file can be imported as SimLab groups using this option.

  • Imprint solid bodies

Solid bodies in Parasolid file can be imprinted to create matching faces/edges between bodies using this option. After importing with "Imprint solid bodies" option, while surface meshing user can turn on "Imprint meshing (Parasolid Assembly)" option, to get matching mesh between bodies.

  • Assembly Structure

The assembly structure in the Parasolid files can be imported by enabling the Assembly Structure toggle. Refer the following link to know more about Assembly Structure.

  • Save geometry in database

By enabling this option, Parasolid geometry information will be stored as a part of SimLab database. Refer the following link to know more about Parasolid CAD Tools

  • Use lighter data structure

Tessellation data of the Parasolid models imported is stored using lighter data structure to reduce the memory usage during import.

  • Import as single model

Multiple Parasolid files can be selected and merged into single model using this option. This option will be enabled only when "Save geometry in database" option is disabled.

  • Add to existing model

Each Parasolid file will be imported as different model in SimLab. This option allows the user to import the Parasolid file into existing Parasolid model, rather than in the new model every time. If multiple files are selected for import with "Add to existing model" toggle enabled, all the Parasolid files will be imported into single Parasolid model.

  • Mass properties

Physical properties such as area, volume, centre of gravity, principal moments can be read by enabling this option.
