Circle and Washer Mesh Control

Introduction

The Circle and Washer Mesh Control feature allows users to precisely control mesh size on circular regions and generate concentric rings (washers) around them. This capability is supported for both CAD and FE bodies, enabling efficient meshing of circular geometries.

This functionality ensures flexibility in controlling mesh density and distribution, improving the accuracy and efficiency of meshing circular regions.

Inputs

  1. Circular Edges: Direct selection of circular edges to apply mesh control.
  2. Bodies with Radius Range: Selection of a body along with specification of the radius range for circles to be considered.

Mesh Parameters on Circular Edges

Nodes on circular edges can be controlled using one of the following options:

  • Number of elements along the circle: Specifies the total number of elements distributed along the circular edge.
  • Element size on the circle: Defines the size of individual elements along the circle.

Washer Parameters

The width of the washer can be defined using one of the following options:

Ratio of washer outer to inner radius: The washer width is determined by the ratio of the outer radius to the inner radius (radius of the selected circular edge).

Washer width: Specifies the explicit width of the washer around the circle.

Washer outer radius: Defines the outer radius of the washer. In this case, the washer width is calculated as the difference between the washer's outer radius and the radius of the selected circular edge.

Mesh Parameters on Washer Face

  • Number of layers: Specifies the number of element layers distributed along the width of the washer.
  • Average element size: Sets the average size of the elements on the washer face. This option generates a free mesh with the desired element size for uniform distribution.
