Resistor, Inductor and Capacitor (RLC) components

The following are the circuit components supported as of SimLab:

Dialog box

Resistor, inductor, and capacitor components are used to define the RLC components of the circuit. The inputs are the resistance, inductance and capacitance along with the initial voltage values.

Note: For Magnetic AC 3D and Supplied Conductors AC solutions the Capacitor component needn't Initial Voltage, but only Capacitance value:

Current-Voltage characteristics

The Current Voltage characteristics for each of these different components is mentioned in the table below

Component Current-voltage characteristic Characteristic quantity Initial value
Resistor R is the value of the resistance (in Ω)
Coil L is the value of the coil inductance (in H) Initial current

I(t=0)

Capacitor C is the value of the capacitance (in F) Initial voltage

U(t=0)

where:
  • U(t) is the voltage at the terminals of the component (in V)
  • I(t) is the current flowing through the component (in A)

Tips and Tricks

  • To modelize an "Open Circuit", a resistance with a big value (like 100 000 Ohm) can be connected.
