Connect Weld To Body

Advanced > Weld > Without Heat Zone > Connect

Dialog Box

This tool is used to create connection between weld and part bodies. Connection will be established by preserving the mesh in weld faces and modifications will be done only in body faces. Both the weld and part bodies should be solid bodies.

  • Weld Faces: User can select the Weld bead toe side faces.
  • Body Faces: User can select the faces from body to which weld is going to be connected.
  • Layers To Re-mesh: Number of shell element layers to be considered in body faces around the weld faces for local re-mesh.
  • Re-mesh Size: Mesh size to re-mesh in local region.
  • Tolerance: Allowable tolerance(distance) to connect the weld faces with body faces.
  • Create heat affected zone(HAZ) as separate body: Select HAZ faces (boundary offset faces) from weld body to create the solid elements under those faces as separate body after the connection. This is applicable only for hex mesh parts.

Example 1: Tet mesh weld connects to Tet mesh part and Hex mesh parts

Input

Output - tet weld to tet part

Output - tet weld to hex part

Example 2: Hex mesh weld connects to Tet mesh & Hex mesh parts

Input

Output - hex weld to hex part

Output - hex weld to tet part

Example 3: Tet mesh weld connects to Hex mesh parts with create HAZ as separate body

Input

Output - hex weld to hex part

Example 4: Hex mesh weld connects to Hex mesh parts with create HAZ as separate body

Input

Output - hex weld to hex part

Note: If weld is going to be connected to hex meshed body, then the hex mesh body should have same number of element layers throughout the thickness.
