Advanced > Power Train > Bearings

Dialog box

This option is used to create inner and outer races of bearing with dominantly Hex elements.

Bearing type

There are nine different types of bearings. Each one is defined by set of dimensions.
  1. Radial Ball Bearing
  2. Radial Double Ball Bearing
  3. Angular Contact Ball Bearing
  4. Angular Contact Double Ball Bearing - 1
  5. Angular Contact Double Ball Bearing - 2
  6. 4 Point Contact Ball Bearing
  7. Roller Bearing
  8. Taper Roller Bearing
  9. Thrust Roller Bearing

Mesh size

  • Axial and radial: Mesh size along the axis and perpendicular to the axis of the bearing.
  • Circumference: The mesh in the circumference of the bearing race can be controlled by two ways.
    • Mesh size: Mesh size along the circumeference of the bearing.
    • Element count: Number of elements along the circumference of the bearing.
  • Bearing contact surface: Mesh size along the contact region of race with the rolling element.
  • Bearing contact element count: Number of elements in the contact region of race with the rolling element. This option will be enabled only when rolling element type solid hex and wedge option is turned ON.

Create bearing race cross section

Allows to create cross section for inner and outer races.

Create retainer

Allows to create retainer which holds the rolling elements to avoid rolling one over the other. This option is supported for radial ball, radial double ball, roller and taper roller bearings only.

  • Retainer mesh size: Mesh size to control the mesh in retainer.
  • Display race: Displays bearing race section image with dimension details.
  • Display retainer: Displays bearing retainer image with dimension details.

Number of rolling elements

User can define number of balls/rollers.

Rolling element mesh size

User can define mesh size for balls/rollers. If it is not specified, bearing contact surface mesh size will be considered as mesh size for balls/rollers.

Rolling element type

  • Solid hex: Creates balls/rollers with hex elements.
  • One layer hex and RBE: The balls/rollers will have one layer hex elements. Thickness of that layer will be the mesh size of contact surface. RBE will be created at the inner surface of the rolling elements.
  • Solid hex and wedge: The balls/rollers will have one layer of wedge elements around its revolving axis and remaining will be hex elements. This option is supported for radial ball, roller and taper roller bearings only. The mesh details in these balls/rollers are customized differently for each bearing type. Matching nodes will be maintained in the line contact between races and rolling elements. Node sets will be created for the nodes in the line contact.
  • Shell quad: Creates shell balls/rollers with quad elements.

Define/Modify Axis

Define the axis for the bearing.

Start point

Start point is a point on the circumference of the beraing inner race. User can enter the xyz value of start point or pick a node/vertex.

Shift bearing axis to start point

Bearing axis will be shifted to the start point.

Bearing cross section parameters

These are the parameters which defines the cross section of the bearing.

Inner race diameter "d" will be calculated by based on the perpendicular distance between the start point and the axis defined. Value for "d" will be updated automatically based on axis and start point. If shift bearing axis to start point option is checked, user have to enter the value for "d".

For creating bearing without snap ring slot, enter the values for Bs, Sw and Sd as 0.
