EDEM Analyst
EDEM Analyst is the post-processor used to analyze and visualize the results of your simulation.
Export Data
You can export the data collected during your simulation for analysis using queries. Data can be exported from a single Time Step, a range of Time Steps, from all elements in your model, or from a selection or bin group.

About EDEM

Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
EDEM Simulator
EDEM Simulator is a powerful solver used for fast and efficient simulations.
EDEM Analyst
EDEM Analyst is the post-processor used to analyze and visualize the results of your simulation.
- Analyst Tree-Display
  Analyst Tree-Display allows you to configure the display of your model in the Viewer. You can visualize Cylindrical Periodic Boundary conditions from the Geometries section.
- Analyst Tree-Setup Selections
  Analyst Tree-Selections allows you to extract data from a particular area or element in the domain.
- Analyst Tree-Tools
  Analyst Tree-Tools comprises the Ruler, Protractor, and Domain Grid.
- Analyst Tree-Clipping
  Analyst Tree-Clipping allows you to remove or clip areas of the model that are currently not of interest.

- Review Your Simulation
  EDEM Analyst allows you to review and examine your simulation.
- Export Data
  You can export the data collected during your simulation for analysis using queries. Data can be exported from a single Time Step, a range of Time Steps, from all elements in your model, or from a selection or bin group.
  - Simulation Deck
    You can export the simulation deck during your simulation. Exporting a deck allows it to be transferred to another location and run using identical simulation parameters.
  - Results Data
    You can export specific data collected during your simulation for analysis using general settings or queries.
  - Continuum Data
    You can export Continuum data during your simulation and analyze your simulation data as a Continuum instead of discrete particles. You can also analyze particle data using Continuum-based theories.
  - HyperMesh Data
    You can export pressure and force data on a specific Geometry in text format suitable for HyperMesh import during your simulation.
  - SimSolid Data
    You can export data export force data on a specific Geometry in text format suitable for SimSolid import during your simulation.
  - ANSYS Workbench Data
    You can export pressure and force data on a specific Geometry in text format suitable for ANSYS Workbench import during your simulation.
  - Data to STL
    You can export Geometries and particles to a CAD file during your simulation.
  - Breakage Particle Size Distribution
    You can export the size distribution of particles produced when using the Breakage model.
  - Images
    You can export images collected during your simulation.
- Continuum Analysis
  Continuum Analysis allows you to view and analyze your simulation data as a Continuum instead of discrete particles.
- Perform Spray Coating Analysis
  The EDEM spray coating post-processing tools use a ray tracing approach that offer key advantages over the legacy Spray Coating model.

  EDEM Analyst allows you to plot the data collected during your simulation using a number of charts.

SimSolid Data

You can export data export force data on a specific Geometry in text format suitable for SimSolid import during your simulation.

To export SimSolid data:

Navigate to File > Export > SimSolid Data.

In the Export Data for SimSolid dialog box, select Use SimSolid default units, and then specify the following details:


For	Specify
Units	Use SimSolid default units – Uses the default units in SimSolid. Use EDEM specified Units – Exports data in the units specified in EDEM.
Timestep Selection	Specify the Start and End Time Steps. Data can be exported for a single Time Step (where Start and End Time Steps are equal or ‘Time Step per file’ is selected) or as time-averaged values (where the Start and the End Time Steps differ and ‘Average to file’ is selected) to minimize the effects of spiking.
Force and Pressure Export
Element Force	Select the checkbox and specify the element force to export the pressure data per Geometry mesh element.
Contact Force	Select the checkbox and specify the contact force to export the contact force data per Particle-Geometry contact point.
Orient and transpose to initial CAD position	Select the checkbox to map the force data to the initial CAD position for each Time Step. This setting allows structural analysis to be carried out in SimSolid even if the Geometry has moved position in EDEM.
Material Center of Mass Export	Select the checkbox to specify a pre-defined particle (manual selection) in order to export the X, Y, and Z co-ordinates of the Center of Mass and total mass for the selection.

Click Export to write the .csv file containing the load data for importing into SimSolid and the file containing the information on the particle manual selection.
