Review Your Simulation

EDEM Analyst allows you to review and examine your simulation.

To review your simulation:
  1. Use the following animation controls in the Viewer to examine every saved data point of your simulation.
    Control Function
    Jump to Start

    Animate backwards

    Step backwards

    Stop

    Step forwards

    Animate forwards

    Jump to End

    Record animation(video)
Note: Close the Data Browser to speed up playback.
  2. In the Step By dropdown list, select one of the following to step through your simulation:

    • Iterations indicates the number of iterations.
    • Time indicates a fixed Time Step.
Note: The number of iterations and the Time Steps are controlled by the value in the corresponding box. For example, setting Step By to Iterations with a value of 5 and clicking Step forward will move the simulation forward by 5 iterations. Similarly, setting Step By setting of Timewith a value of 0.1 s and clicking Step Forward will move the simulation forward by 0.1 seconds.
  3. In the Animation Type dropdown list, select one of the following to determine how you want to play your simulation back while clicking Play Forward:

    • Step Playback indicates that the playback will be determined by the Step By options. The number of frames per second (fps) the animation plays at is specified in the corresponding box.

Note: Setting the time factor to every iteration will result in a smoother but slower playback, if all other settings are left unchanged. Similarly, increasing the fps will result in a smoother playback if all other settings are left unchanged. When your simulation contains partial saves, setting the step factor to match the partial save interval results in a constant display of full-save Time Steps.
    • Real-Time indicates that the playback will last for a set period of time, as specified in the corresponding box.

Note: The Step By iterations are not relevant for the playback of the simulation but are relevant if stepping through the simulation manually. For example, setting Step By Iterations as 10 will not influence the animation playback if you have selected Real-Time as the Animation Type, but will still influence the Step forward and Step backward playback.
    • Playback Speed indicates that the playback speed will be multiplied by the value entered.

Note: As in the Real-Time setting, the Step By iterations are not relevant for the playback of the simulation. However, they are relevant if you are stepping through the simulation manually. For example, a playback speed of 2 for a simulation time of 10 seconds will play the simulation back at twice the normal speed, which means that it takes 5 seconds for playback, irrespective of the Step By settings.

Configure the View

The Viewer Controls help determine how items are displayed in the Viewer.

To configure the View:
  1. Select the Time Step displayed in the Viewer.

  2. Select the controls to change, add, and configure camera views.

  3. Add descriptive text to the Viewer.

    1. Click the icon and specify the text in the text field.
    2. Select the text color using the Color dropdown list.
    3. Select the Position Text checkbox to position the text, and click anywhere in the Viewer window.
    4. Click the icon to delete text.

Schedule Views

You can schedule a series of views for playback, so that the viewer automatically switches to a certain view and/or configuration when a specified time is reached.

To schedule views:
  1. Click Scheduler.

  2. In the Playback Scheduler dialog box, specify the following details:
    Table 1.
    For Specify
Time Step Select a Time Step from the list on the left, at which you would like to apply a different view and/or a different config file.
Config Select a config (*.dfg) file to load at the selected Time Step.
View Select a view to switch to at the selected Time Step.
Halt Playback Select the checkbox to stop the playback of the simulation at the selected Time Step.
Insert Click to add the selected Time Step, Config, View, and Halt Playback options to the Scheduler.
Remove Click to remove the selected Time Step, Config, View, and Halt Playback options from the Scheduler.
  3. Click OK to save the view.

Track Geometries

The Geometry tracking feature allows you to focus on a Geometry instead of the entire domain, making analyzing, translating, and rotating Geometries easier.

To track Geometries:
  1. Click the + icon to create a new camera view.
  2. Click on the icon to the view the dropdown list.
  3. Click Track Geometry Box.
  4. Select a Geometry from the dropdown list and then click OK.
  5. Run through the simulation and ensure that the camera is moving based on the Geometry motions.
