Tag entities tag a piece of information, called the body, onto a node, element, line, surface, point, or solid within the model. They can be used to reference an entity across multiple versions of the same model.


Tags are automatically deleted when:
  • A tag is on a surface edge and the edge is split, toggled (in either direction), or surface normals are adjusted.
  • A tag is on a free line and the free line is split.
  • A tag is on a surface vertex and all but one (owning parent of the vertex) of the associated surfaces are deleted, or the vertex is toggled (in either direction).

Create Tags

For example, if you have several designs for a control arm, the appropriate nodes in each model, are tagged, as well as the corresponding nodes on the subframe. You can then write a macro that assembles the model by linking the components. This procedure automates the assembly process by allowing you to plug-in any compatible design for the control arm.

A tag consists of a label and a body, and must be assigned to an entity. It is suggested that you use the body to specify the component (ControlArm) and the label for the location on that component (TopLeftSide). You may also use your own naming conventions.

In the modeling window, a tag displays as the text of the label, next to the corresponding entity.

  1. From the Model ribbon, click the Tag tool.

  2. Select an entity to tag and a color for the tag.
  3. Enter body and description text, and if needed a label other than the ID.
  4. Click Create.
