- Example Overview
This example shows how to define and set up a radio coverage solution in Altair SimLab. The model is a single-storey building with doors and windows, solved using the Dominant Path model (DPM). The model is solved and the results are displayed.
- Topics Discussed in this Example
- Example Prerequisites
Before starting this example, ensure that the system satisfies the minimum requirements.
- Launching and Configuring SimLab
Open SimLab and configure SimLab to only show the tools relevant to the selected solution.
- Navigating the Graphics Window
The graphics window is used to display and interact with the model. You can zoom, rotate and pan a 3D model using the keyboard, mouse, or a combination of both.
- Defining the Sketch Plane
Set up the XY plane as the sketch plane. The floor plan will be drawn on this plane.
- Setting the Model Units
Change the model units to meters, kilograms, and seconds.
- Creating the Building Geometry
Use 2D sketches to define the building floor plan, doors, and windows. The sketches are realized as single sheet bodies to create the building geometry.
- Adding Material Properties
To add material properties to the ceiling, doors, floor, windows and walls, the materials first need to be loaded from the Material Database. A property can be defined and assigned when the material is loaded into the model.
- Hiding Selected Objects in the Graphics Window
To make placing the antenna in an upcoming topic easier, hide the ceiling for now.
- Defining a Radio Coverage Solution in SimLab
Create a radio coverage solution for the model (bodies).
- Adding an Antenna
Add a Wi-Fi antenna to the model.
- Adding a Prediction Plane
Define a prediction plane where the results are to be predicted when running the WinProp Solver.
- Specifying the Propagation Model - DPM
Select the Dominant Path Model (DPM) as the computation method.
- Defining the Result Requests
Specify the predictions to be computed.
- Solving the Model
Compute the propagation for the antenna to obtain the prediction results.
