Current limitations

Although, certain limitations still apply. Most of them are related to the type of bodies on which topology optimization Design Space have been assigned, or to the type of material assigned to those bodies. The most important cases are listed below:
  • Unavailable in the following solutions:
    • Steady State AC Magnetic.
    • Non-magnetic (i.e. Electrostatic or AC Supplied Conductors) or coupled (i.e. ElectroMagnetics + Flow) solutions.
  • The faces being optimized need to be finely meshed. Moreover, Heterogeneous meshes (i.e., mixing triangles and quadrangles) are forbidden.
  • Axisymmetric, 3D and skew domains are not supported yet.
  • It is not possible to perform the topology optimization in Transient magnetic applications with the "Initialization by a FE Solution" option.
  • Only faces lying on Soft Magnetic material and Sheet Lamination may be used for topology optimization. Assigning other types of bodies (such as Air or vacuum, Coil conductors, Solid conductors and Hard Magnetic materials) make them incompatible with topology optimization.
