Introduction:

Particle solution is used to simulate the movement of granular materials through a series of calculations that trace individual particles constituting the granular material. We can analyse the behaviour of coal, mined ores, soils, fibres, grains, tablets, and powders.

Particle simulation allows you to learn how materials will interact with their equipment under a range of operating and process conditions.

Workflow in SimLab:

Step 1: Create Particles Solution.

Step 2: Create Materials.
  • Solid | Metal | Isotropic for geometry.
  • Bulk Material for Particles.
Step 3:

Step 5: Particles Solution Settings.

Particles Solution | Settings | Right click:
  • Solver Settings: Specify “Auto Grid Resizing”, by turn off this user can specify their Cell Grid Size.
  • Result Request: Specify “Output time interval”.
  • Format and Execute Options: Specify Simulation Engine, Number of CPUs, Number of GPUs
Step 6: Solve Particles
  • Click on Results | Update, exports the geometry details in obj files and write the json file which containing the Particle factory and moving mesh details. These are the input for EDEM solver.
  • It solves this solution in EDEM solver and loads the particles results in simlab.
Step 7: Post processing of Particles
  • User can review and visualize the different components of the particles results.
  • Most of the particle’s shapes supported (except Sphero-cylinder).
  • For advanced post processing use Results | View in EDEM, to load particles results in EDEM.
