Readers

SimSolid offers several readers, specifically Parasolid, Parasolid+Spatial, and Legacy.
  1. Parasolid Reader – Recommended for optimal performance when importing all file formats except CATIA
  2. Parasolid + Spatial (CATIA V5 and V6) Reader – Recommended for importing CATIA V5 and V6 files
Note: Parasolid + Spatial (CATIA V5 and V6) Reader utilizes the Spatial reader for these specific formats, ensuring the most accurate and efficient handling of CATIA geometry.
  3. Legacy Reader – Recommended if issues are encountered with Parasolid import, such as the import failing or being slower than expected, switch to the Legacy reader

Preferred File Formats

  • Parasolid and JT – Preferred for import as they generally offer better performance and accuracy compared to STEP files
  • NX – Recommended for native geometry files (such as NX's native format) to ensure smooth import into SimSolid
  • SolidWorks – Recommended for native geometry files to ensure smooth import into SimSolid

Additional Best Practices

Export Geometry in Global/Assembly Coordinates
When exporting geometry, always use global or assembly coordinates to ensure that the parts are positioned correctly when imported into SimSolid. This helps maintain the correct alignment of components in the simulation environment.
Handling Part Instances
If your model contains part instances, save a copy of the part for import into SimSolid. This avoids any potential issues with instances being misinterpreted or incorrectly handled during the import process.

By following these recommendations, both the import speed and the quality of geometry can be optimized in SimSolid.
