Components Library

The Vehicle Tools in MotionView offers a set of components models commonly used in motorcycle, cars, trucks, and buses, such as springs, bushings, shock absorber, tire, and bumpstops.
Component models share the following features:
  • Components are ready to be connected in the model with no additional modeling requirements.
  • Predefined outputs are included covering most of the components desired results.
  • Parameters can be included in MotionView or accessed through a property file (TeimOrbit) independent of the MotionView mdl and MotionSolve input deck.
Table 1. Available Components
Entity Function Features
Air Spring
  • Limit force in suspension components
  • Maintain ride height for large variations in load
  • Absorb the impact from the vertical road inputs
  • Exerts a force along a line between two bodies
  • Non-linear force versus deflection at different static inflation pressures interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Set the initial load and spring height to determine the static inflation pressure
Helical Spring
  • Limit force in suspension components
  • Absorb the impact from the vertical road inputs
  • Exerts a force along a line between two bodies
  • Non-linear force versus deflection interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Set the initial load or length of the spring at vehicle input position
Shock Absorber
Dissipate the energy stored in springs and damp the chassis motions
  • Exerts a force along a line between two bodies
  • Include rebound and bump stops to limit the shock absorber actuation
  • Non-linear force versus deflection interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Linear force versus velocity
Mount Bushing
Elastically mount vehicle components to the vehicle chassis or body
  • Exerts force and torque all directions
  • Non-linear force versus deflection interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Linear damping
Frequency Dependent Bushing
Elastically mount vehicle components to the vehicle chassis or body
  • Exerts force and torque in all directions
  • Stiffness and damping dependent on amplitude and frequency of bushing displacement
  • Non-linear static force/torque versus deflection
Bump Stop
Limit suspension bump travel
  • Exerts a force along a line to repel two bodies when the distance between the bodies is less than a threshold
  • Non-linear force versus deflection interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Linear Damping
Rebound Stop
Limit suspension rebound travel
  • Exerts a force along a line to repel two bodies when the distance between the bodies is greater than a threshold
  • Non-linear force versus deflection interpolated from tabular data stored in a property file
  • Linear Damping
Rider
Model the mass and inertia of a vehicle driver and passengers
  • Adjustable height and body density
  • Position knees, ankles, elbow, hip, hand, wrist, pelvis, neck to mimic different postures
Tire
  • Develop the contact forces from the ground for carrying vehicle load, steering, accelerating, and braking
  • Isolate vibrations from small road irregularities
  • Altair Fiala tire
  • Altair Soft-Soil tire
  • CD-Tire
  • Cosin FTire
  • Siemens tire (MF-Tyre)
  • Different road models support, including 3D and 2D, soft-soil, Curved Gridded Road (crg), Cosin RGR, CD-Tire, and point cloud data
