Partition

Divide a solid part into design and non-design regions by selecting a hole, pocket, or face to offset.

  1. On the Geometry ribbon, select the Partition tool.

Note: The tool may be hidden in the dropdown menu. To access the dropdown menu, you can do one of the following:
    • Select at the lower right corner of the currently displayed tool.
    • Click and hold the currently displayed tool.
Holes and pockets are automatically selected and shown in red.
  2. Select faces to partition.
Selected faces are shown in red.
  3. Click a selected (red) feature to execute the partition, or select Apply on the microdialog.
  4. Use the microdialog to edit the default offset value. You can edit the offsets for multiple partitions while in editing mode.
    • Use the Reverse Direction button to change the direction of the offset.
    • Change the Thickness and press Enter. If the thickness you entered is invalid, the text box is highlighted in red.
  5. Right-click to exit the tool.
Note:
  • If you apply a partition to a design space, it automatically creates a non-design space.
  • For solids, if you enter a thickness of zero, you will get a surface in a new part. For surfaces, if you enter a thickness of zero, those surfaces will be placed into a new part.
  • You can edit the Default Offset value in the Preferences.
  • Only solids can be partitioned, not surfaces.

Apply a Variable to a Parameter

You can apply existing variables and add new ones via the microdialog in various sketch and geometry tools.

  1. In the tool’s microdialog, click the f(x) icon.

  3. Click Apply to apply the variable to the construction feature.
  4. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.
Tip:
  • You can also create a variable by entering a new name and expression in the microdialog’s text field, for example: Variable1=50
