Rotational Inertia Load

Apply a uniformly distributed rotational inertia load over the volumes of the parts in an assembly.

  1. On the Project Tree, open the Analysis Workbench.
  2. In the workbench toolbar, click (Inertia Load) > Rotational inertia.
  3. Specify where the translational inertia will be applied in one of the following ways:
    • Activate the Apply to whole assembly radio button to apply to all parts in the assembly.
    • Activate the Apply to selected parts radio button, then select desired parts in the modeling window.
  4. Use the radio buttons to specify either edge or cylinder selection.
  5. On the modeling window, click to select specific parts on the model.
This specifies the location of the axis of rotation.
Tip: You can fine-tune the location using the X, Y, and X values under Origin and Direction, or dragging the ball in the model.
  6. Optional: If necessary, select the Flip axis radio button to change the way the axis points.
  7. Specify the numerical values and Units for Acceleration along axis, Angular velocity, and Angular acceleration.
  8. Click OK.
