Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
- Creator Tree-Project
  Creator Tree-Project allows you to define the title and description for the simulation.
- Creator Tree-Bulk Material
  Creator Tree-Bulk Material allows you to add bulk material and bulk material particle shapes to a model and define their interactions.
- Creator Tree-Equipment Material
  Creator Tree-Equipment Material allows you to add equipment material to a model and define interactions between materials.
- Creator Tree-Geometries
  Creator Tree-Geometries allows you to use Geometry sections to construct the environment in which your bulk material interacts.
  - Select Geometry Sections
    You can select Geometry sections by clicking the required Geometry in the Viewer window. The Geometry in the Creator Tree is highlighted.
  - Create a New Geometry Section
    You can create sections in EDEM or import them from a CAD program to create particle factories.
  - Import Geometry Sections
    Instead of defining Geometry using EDEM, you can import Geometries from a variety of CAD applications.
  - Work with Geometry Sections
    You can replace, copy, and merge Geometry sections. You can also create Geometry groups.
    - Replace Geometry Sections
      You can replace Geometry sections with new imported Geometry objects or the standard EDEM objects. These replaced objects will retain the factory, kinematic, and transform settings.
    - Copy Geometry Sections
      You can copy single or multiple Geometry sections that have been previously created and imported.
    - Merge Geometry Sections
      You can merge multiple Geometry sections that have been previously created or imported.
    - Group Geometries
      You can use Geometry groups to organize Geometry sections in the Creator and Analyst trees.
  - Geometry Motions
    Sections of a Geometry can be static or dynamic. Static sections remain in a fixed position during the course of a simulation whereas dynamic sections move. Sections can move under fixed translation, rotation, conveyor motion, or sinusoidal motion.
  - Factories
    You can use Particle factories to define where, when, and how Particles/Meta-Particles appear in a simulation. The following types of particle factories are available - Static, Dynamic, Block, Volume Packing, and Recorded.
- Creator Tree-Environment
  Creator Tree-Environment allows you to define global settings for the simulation in the Environment section.
- Creator Tree-Physics
  Creator Tree-Physics allows you to add Physics interactions.
EDEM Simulator
EDEM Simulator is a powerful solver used for fast and efficient simulations.
EDEM Analyst
EDEM Analyst is the post-processor used to analyze and visualize the results of your simulation.
EDEM Contact Models
A Contact Model describes how elements behave when they come into contact with each other.
EDEM Cal Utility
EDEM Cal is a utility which works with EDEM and is designed to assist in performing calibration.

Group Geometries

You can use Geometry groups to organize Geometry sections in the Creator and Analyst trees.

To group Geometries:

Right-click Geometry and then select Add Geometry Group to add a group.
Optionally, select multiple Geometry sections and then right-click Add to new Geometry Group.

A new group is created along with the Geometry sections.
Right-click the context menu to move Geometry sections between groups or to Geometry groups.
Right-click Remove from Geometry Group to remove a Geometry from a Geometry group or press Ctrl + Shift + x.
Note:
- Deleting a group containing Geometry sections will provide an option to delete Geometry sections in the group or only the group item.
- If you add/import a new Geometry while a Geometry section within a group is selected, the new Geometry will be added to this group, or, otherwise to the top-level Geometry sections Group.
- If you copy a Geometry, the copy is created at the same level in the Geometry tree hierarchy.
