Creator Tree-Geometries
Creator Tree-Geometries allows you to use Geometry sections to construct the environment in which your bulk material interacts.
Factories
You can use Particle factories to define where, when, and how Particles/Meta-Particles appear in a simulation. The following types of particle factories are available - Static, Dynamic, Block, Volume Packing, and Recorded.
Create Block Factories
You can create a bed of material in the selected Geometry. However, the tool is only available for Box Geometries.

Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
- Creator Tree-Project
  Creator Tree-Project allows you to define the title and description for the simulation.
- Creator Tree-Bulk Material
  Creator Tree-Bulk Material allows you to add bulk material and bulk material particle shapes to a model and define their interactions.
- Creator Tree-Equipment Material
  Creator Tree-Equipment Material allows you to add equipment material to a model and define interactions between materials.
- Creator Tree-Geometries
  Creator Tree-Geometries allows you to use Geometry sections to construct the environment in which your bulk material interacts.
  - Select Geometry Sections
    You can select Geometry sections by clicking the required Geometry in the Viewer window. The Geometry in the Creator Tree is highlighted.
  - Create a New Geometry Section
    You can create sections in EDEM or import them from a CAD program to create particle factories.
  - Import Geometry Sections
    Instead of defining Geometry using EDEM, you can import Geometries from a variety of CAD applications.
  - Work with Geometry Sections
    You can replace, copy, and merge Geometry sections. You can also create Geometry groups.
  - Geometry Motions
    Sections of a Geometry can be static or dynamic. Static sections remain in a fixed position during the course of a simulation whereas dynamic sections move. Sections can move under fixed translation, rotation, conveyor motion, or sinusoidal motion.
  - Factories
    You can use Particle factories to define where, when, and how Particles/Meta-Particles appear in a simulation. The following types of particle factories are available - Static, Dynamic, Block, Volume Packing, and Recorded.
    - Create Static Factories
      Static factories produce particles/Meta-Particles at a specified time. Simulation is paused during particle creation.
    - Create Dynamic Factories
      Dynamic factories produce particles over the duration of a simulation. Simulation continues as the particles are created.
    - Create Block Factories
      You can create a bed of material in the selected Geometry. However, the tool is only available for Box Geometries.
    - Volume Packing
      You can use the Volume Packing tool to create a large number of particles instantaneously by filling a volume Geometry with particles based on a user-defined solid fraction.
    - Recorded Factories
      Recorded Factories allow you to record the material flow in one area of a simulation to use as a factory in another simulation. The running simulation of any material entering the Recorder box is tracked and written to a file. Once the simulation is complete, the recorded data can be used as a factory in any subsequent simulation. You can have multiple recorded factories and recorders in a simulation.

  Creator Tree-Environment allows you to define global settings for the simulation in the Environment section.

  Creator Tree-Physics allows you to add Physics interactions.

Create Block Factories

You can create a bed of material in the selected Geometry. However, the tool is only available for Box Geometries.

To add a Material block:

Select the material box and right-click to select Add Block factory.

In the Parameters dialog box, specify the following details:


For	Specify
Material Block	Select a material from the Material Block dropdown list that displays all the saved material blocks within the Material Database that have been transferred to the current simulation deck. Transferring a block from the Material Database to the current simulation also transfers all the relevant Bulk and Equipment materials, interactions, and the Contact Model used. Without selecting any additional settings, EDEM will place as many copies of the selected block as they fit within the volume of the factory box. This will essentially create a bed of material within the box domain.
Initial Creation Time	Specify the time at which the block is created. If you are using Dynamic Block creation. this is the time at which the first block is created.
Dynamic Block Creation	Select this checkbox to repeat this step every time you set a period in the Create Block Every section. If the Geometry box is the same size as the original saved block, then one block will be created every time period, essentially using the output of one simulation as an input to another.
Creation End Time	Specify the time at which you want the block creation to end.
Create Block Every	Select the checkbox to overwrite the stored material velocity with the user-specified value.
Override Velocity	Select the checkbox to override the velocity of the particles as they are spawned. The velocity can be specified in the X, and/or Y direction.
