Measure Using Ray Probe
Launch a ray through the model and measure lengths of segments where the ray intersects the model surface.
- Key Applications
- A. Measure sheet metal thickness
-
- Easily find the thickness of sheet metal components by aiming a ray perpendicular to the surface
- Gives the distance between the points where the ray hits the inner and outer faces
- B. Measure diameter of cylindrical holes or parts
-
- Project the ray across its cross-section to find the diameter of a cylindrical hole, a rod, or pipe
- Measured distance between the intersecting surfaces along the ray's path will be the diameter
- C. General distance measurement
- Use for any general distance measurement between two surfaces or features that the ray intersects
-
In the main window toolbar, click
Measurements.
- In the dialog, click the Ray probe tab.
- Optional: Orient the model so the desired ray direction is normal to the screen.
- Specify the Ray direction.
-
In the modeling window, pick a point on the
model.
The dialog box displays the list of segments where the ray intersects the model surface, as well as their lengths.
- Optional: Select two segments from the list to show the distance between the segments.
- Click Close.
