Simplify Fasteners

Geometry > Body > More Tools > Simplify Fasteners

Description

Fasteners are designed complex in many cases. Retaining every feature in it may not be significant in the analysis. This tool helps to simplify the shape of fasteners.

This is supported only for CAD Parasolid bodies imported using the ‘Save geometry in database’ option.

Method:

  • Body

This method gets bodies as input. It calculates the dimension parameters by itself and tries to simply the fasteners. But user must filter the fastener bodies and give as input.

    Drill hole

On enabling this toggle, if fasteners have through hole in it, a hole will be drilled in the simplified body too.

    Example:

    Example - Drill Hole:

  • Face

For this method, the seating faces of the fasteners have to be selected. The parameters will either be calculated automatically or can be given as input by the user to simplify the fasteners.

    Seating faces:

Seating face is the one which parts the head and shank of the bolt. It is mostly planar or sometimes conical.

    Dimension:

Enable this option to enter the dimension values.

    Head radius:

It is the radius of fastener head for which a simplified body need to be created.

    Shank radius:

It is the radius of fastener shank for which a simplified body need to be created.

    Drill hole radius:

It is the radius of hole to be drilled in the simplified body, if required.

    Example:

Delete input bodies:

Turn on this toggle to delete the input bodies that got simplified.

Suppress input bodies:

Turn on this toggle to suppress the input bodies that got simplified.
