Create Datum Plane

Create a Datum plane to use them as a clipping plane or to review the results along a cut-section.

  1. On the Project Tree, click on the Assembly workbench.
  2. On the toolbar, click Create datum plane.
    Datum plane dialog opens.
  3. Define the origin point for the datum plane.
    1. In the dialog, go to the Origin tab.
    2. Adjust the numeric values in the X, Y and Z fields to fine tune the location.
Tip: Drag the point on the model to adjust location.
  4. Define the Normal axis direction for the datum plane.
    1. In the datum plane dialog, go to the Normal tab.
    2. Adjust the numeric values in the X, Y and Z fields to fine tune the direction of the normal axis.
  5. Specify the Parts to Intersect with the Datum Plane.
    1. In the dialog, go to the Parts tab.
By default, all parts will be included for intersection with the created datum plane.
    2. To customize this selection, select Specific Parts.
This allows selection of only the parts that should intersect with the datum plane.
  6. Click OK.
Multiple datum planes can be defined as well. Use these to review the result on the section-cuts as well as a clipping plane. Datum planes can be created before solving or after solving a subcase. If datum planes are created after solving, results will be generated specifically for those planes without the need to globally regenerate results.
