Set Orthotropic Material Geometry

Define the material orientation of the part.

  1. In the Project Tree, expand the Assembly workbench.
  2. Right-click on a part from the list with an orthotropic material assigned, then select Set orthotropic material geometry from the context menu.
  3. In the Orthotropic material geometry dialog, pick a material coordinate system in one of the following ways:
    Option Steps
    Global coordinate system/previously defined local coordinate system The Global coordinate system is selected by default. Any local coordinate systems you defined will be listed in the drop-down menu.
    Define a new coordinate system
    1. Select Custom from the drop-down menu.
    2. Define the X-axis direction.
      • Click the Axis X radio button.
      • Enter the X, Y, and Z values to define the direction.
      • Click the Flip axis button to change the direction of the vector.
    3. Define the Y-axis direction.
      • Click the Axis Y radio button.
      • Enter the X, Y, and Z values to define the direction.
      • Click the Flip axis button to change the direction of the vector.
  4. Optional: Use the Zoom buttons to zoom the view to the selected part.
  5. Click OK.
