Auto Hex Mesh

Mesh > 3D Mesh > Hex > Auto Hex

Description

This tool is used to automatically hex mesh bodies based on body types. The user should specify the average and minimum element size for meshing.

Body Types Supported

  1. Axis symmetric
  2. Screw
  3. Pipe
  4. 2.5 D
  5. Sweep
  6. Extrude in one direction
  7. Extrude in multiple directions

Allow quad mesh transition

This option generates quad mesh with transition. For more details please refer Allow Quad Mesh Transition.

Create ring around circle and slot

For 2.5D bodies, it will create one or two layers of elements around circles and slots as shown in the below picture.

Avoid spider wedge along axis

For axis symmetric and screw bodies, it will create hex elements along the axis instead of wedge elements.

Note:

In case of two layers, first layer will be 40% and the second layer will be 60% of the total distance.

Auto hex mesh output option for different inputs
  • FE Body: The output mesh will be created in a new model.
  • CAD Body: The below dialog will prompt the user to select the output location if an equivalent mesh is already present. For more details, please refer Mesh output options for CAD body.

Edge Mesh Control

Users can control the mesh on edges that aren't oriented in the thickness direction by applying edge mesh control. For more details, please refer to Edge Mesh Control.

Note: Edge mesh control is supported for 2.5D and auto extrude – single bodies only.

Washer Mesh Control

Users can create rings around a circle by applying washer mesh control. For more details, please refer Washer Mesh Control.

Volume Layer Mesh Control

Users can control the number of layers along the thickness direction by applying volume layer mesh control. For more details, please refer Volume Layer Mesh Control.

Note: Washer and volume layer mesh controls are supported for 2.5D bodies only.
