Connections are used to define the association of different regions of interest between parts in an assembly.
Virtual Connector
Virtual connectors are rigid imaginary parts created between selected faces/spots representing geometrical support of the connector.

- Regular Connections
  Regular connections can be used to define contact-based connections between parts in an assembly.
- Precise Connections
  SimSolid creates precise connections on the fly during geometry import and are grouped under the Precise connection folder.
- Welds
  Welding is a process that joins materials, usually metals by using heat or pressure.
- Adhesives
  Structural adhesives are simulated as thin layers of adhesive material associated with a connection.
- Virtual Connector
  Virtual connectors are rigid imaginary parts created between selected faces/spots representing geometrical support of the connector.
  - Pin
    Connect an arbitrary number of coaxial cylindrical faces.
  - General Connector
    Create a rigid imaginary rigid part between arbitrary faces/spots.
  - Remote Support
    Connect faces or spots to a ground support.
  - Bushing
    Define directional stiffness and inertia coefficients.
  - Imported Bushing
    Defines directional stiffness between two parts that lie within specified diameter from the bushing center via importing a .csv file.

Shock Absorbers

Create a virtual shock absorber with finite stiffness and damping between two different parts or between a single part and ground. Virtual shock absorber is applied on spots.

Note: Shock absorbers with damping are only supported for complex eigen value analysis. Running modes are automatically run as complex modes.

In the Project Tree, click the Connections workbench.
On the Connections workbench, select Shock absorber.
For Type, select Shock absorber or Ground shock absorber.
If Type is set to Shock absorber, do the following.
1. Select End1, and then select the spot.
2. Repeat for End2.
If Type is set to Grounded shock absorber, do the following.
1. Select End1, and then select a spot.
2. Switch to Ground, and then enter the coordinates of the ground point.
Define Stiffness and Damping.
Click Apply.
The virtual connector will appear in the Connections branch. If selected, you will see vectors representing the connection in the modeling window.
