Merge Faces

Geometry > Face > Edit > Merge Faces

Dialog Box

This option is used to Merge the selected faces. The selected faces should not share non-manifold edges or be disconnected. When faces are merged, the face with the largest surface area is treated as the parent face and the output face inherits the properties of that particular face. Also the shared edges will be removed. The following options are available while merging the faces.
Note: This tool is supported for CAD Parasolid models imported with "Save geometry in database" option. But works only with Preserve Boundary Edges option.

Merge Boundary Edges

This option is used when the boundary edges of the selected faces should also be merged. The floating vertices that are created after merging the faces will also be removed.

  • Example

The selected faces are merged with the "Merge Boundary Edges" option. The blue markings are the vertices of the boundary edges. After merging the faces, the shared edge are removed and the adjacent boundary edges are merged as shown in the output.

Preserve Boundary Edges

This option is used when the boundary edges of the selected faces need be preserved.

  • Example

The selected faces are merged with the "Keep Boundary Edges" option. The blue markings are the vertices of the boundary edges. After merging the faces, the shared edges are removed and the boundary edges are preserved as shown in the output.

Preserve Boundary Edges

This option is used when the boundary edges of the selected faces are to be split based on the specified angle.

  • Example

The selected faces are merged with the "Split Boundary Edges based on Feature Angle" option. The blue markings are the vertices of the boundary edges. After merging the faces, the shared edges are removed and the boundary edges are modified as shown in the output. New vertex is created where the angle is greater than 45 along the boundary edges and the old vertices are removed where the angle is less than 45.
