Batch Meshing
Tutorial Level: Intermediate In this tutorial, you will learn how to use the BatchMesher tool to create a 2D Mesh and representations.
Before you begin, copy the file(s) used in this tutorial to your
working directory.
In this tutorial you will:
- Load and edit parameters and criteria
- Create a 2D mesh with BatchMesher
- Open the model and Part Browser
- Check representations controls
- Create representations using BatchMesher
- Synchronize instances
- Load the second variant for Center Rail and create a Crash 2mm representation
Load and Edit Parameters and Criteria
- Start HyperMesh.
- From the menu bar, click .

Browse to your working directory, select Practice_bm.hm,
and click Open.
The model opens in the modeling window.

From the Topology ribbon, select the
Parameter Editor tool from the
Param/Criteria tool group to open the
Parameter Editor dialog.

From the Parameter Editor dialog, click
.
- Select crash_5mm.param from the installation folder and click Open.

From the Basic tab of the Parameter Editor dialog,
navigate to the Mesh options section, set Target element size to
2.5, and click Apply.

Elems to >4 as shown in Figure 4.

Tip: Before changing the settings, use the Measure tool to measure the radius of the hole. -
From the Quality Correction tab of the Parameter Editor
dialog, configure the Quality Correction settings.
- From the Node movement section, verify that the Move across shared edges <= check box is selected and that it is set to L*0.1.
- Verify that the Move across free edges <= check box is selected and set it to L*0.1.
- Select the Move across non-manifold edges <= check box and set it to Lmin*0.05.
- From the Element cleanup settings section, change Feature angle to 30.

From the Topology ribbon, select the
Criteria Editor tool from the
Param/Criteria tool group to open the
Criteria Editor dialog.

From the Criteria Editor dialog, click
.
- Select crash_5mm.criteria from the installation folder and click Open.

From the 2D tab of the Criteria Editor dialog, change
Target element size to 2.5 and click OK to apply and close the dialog.

Note: With the Recalculate min and max size fail values check box selected, failed values will automatically be updated based on Target element size.
Create 2D Mesh With Batch Mesher

From the 2D ribbon, select the BatchMesher tool.

- From the modeling window, select all of the model's surfaces.
- From the guide bar, click Mesh.

Once the 2D mesh is created, click
from the View Controls toolbar and hide Geometry to review the mesh.

From the Topology ribbon, select the Feature
Browser tool from the Features tool group
to open the Feature Browser.

- From the Feature Manager, review the Features that the BatchMesher output has stored.
Open Model and Part Browser
In this step, you will open a new model and the Part Browser in preparation for creating a shell representation with BatchMesher.
- From the menu bar, click .

Browse to your working directory, select
Batch-Midsurf-FINAL.hm, and click
Open.
The model opens in the modeling window.

- From the Assembly ribbon, select the Parts tool to open the Part Browser.

From the Part Browser, click
to enable Part Set View and check the assembly structure.

Check Representations Controls

From the Assembly ribbon, click the
Controls tool to open the Representation
Control Manager dialog.

From the Crash 5mm tab of the Representation Control
Manager dialog, review the Input representation field.

Tip: Clickto open the Criteria or Parameter Editor.
- Click OK to confirm and close the dialog.
Create Representations Using BatchMesher

From the Part Browser, select the four parts shown in Figure 15.
- LeftOuter_A_000435_Safety
- Left Inner_A_000434_Safety
- CenterInner_A_000428_Safety
- CenterOuter_A_000429_Safety

- From the modeling window, right-click and select from the context menu.

From the Create tab of the Change Representation dialog,
select the Crash 5mm representation.

Note: To create Shell representation(s) if the Common representation is not available, select a method to be used for extracting from the CAD representation. The default method is Skin. -
Clear the Save to Library check box and click
OK.
Note: Select the Quality Report check box if you want to access to quality report at the end of the BatchMeshing process.The BatchMesher window appears. All representations are sent to BatchMesher for processing in parallel.

- From the BatchMesher dialog, check the status of the job.

When the job finishes, click Yes from the
BatchMesh dialog.
Note: Quality Reports can be accessed from the .html file inside the representations folder in your working directory. Alternatively, you can click the View Summary Report from the BatchMesh dialog.

From the Part Browser, review the Crash 5mm representation
under the Representation column.

Synchronize Instances
- From the Part Browser, select the LeftOuter_A_000435_Safety part under .
- Right-click and select context menu. from the

From the Instance Sync dialog, select All
Loaded.
The Crash 5mm representation will appear for the symmetric part.

- Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 on the LeftInner_A_000434_Safety part to obtain the Crash 5mm representation for that part.
Load Second Variant and Create a Crash Representation
In this step, you will load the second variant for Center Rail and create a Crash 2mm representation.
- From the Part Browser, select the CenterInner_A_000428_Safety and CenterInner_A_000429_Safety parts under .
- Right-click and select context menu. from the
- From the Confirm Unload Representation dialog, click Yes.
- Select the CenterInner_var2_A_000431_Safety and CenterInner_var2_A_000432_Safety parts under .
- Right-click and select context menu. from the

From the Change Representation dialog, select the
Common representation and click OK.

From the Assembly ribbon, click the
Controls tool to open the Representation
Control Manager.

From the Representation Control Manager dialog, review the
Crash 2mm control and the Input representation field.

- From the Part Browser, select CenterInner_var2_A_000431_Safety and CenterInner_var2_A_000432_Safety under .
- From the modeling window, right-click and select from the context menu.
- From the Create tab of the Change Representation dialog, select the Crash 2mm representation.

Verify that the Save to Library check box is cleared and
click OK.
Note: Select the Quality Report check box if you want to access to quality report at the end of batchmeshing process.
- When the job finishes, click Yes from the BatchMesh dialog.
- When BatchMesher finishes, navigate to the menu bar, click and save the file as Batch-Midsurf-FINAL.hm.
