SS-T: 2000 Edit Connections

Edit regular connections in SimSolid.

Purpose
SimSolid performs meshless structural analysis that works on full featured parts and assemblies, is tolerant of geometric imperfections, and runs in seconds to minutes. In this tutorial, you will do the following:
  • Use the Review part connections dialog to edit regular connections.
Model Description
The following model file is needed for this tutorial:
  • EditConnections.ssp

This file has the following specifications:
  • Material is set to Plastic for all parts.
  • Regular connections with default gap and penetration tolerance.

Open Project

  1. Start a new SimSolid session.
  2. On the main window toolbar, click Open Project .
  3. In the Open project file dialog, choose EditConnections.ssp
  4. Click OK.

View Connections

  1. In the modeling window, select the parts highlighted in orange in Figure 2.

  2. Right-click on the selected parts and choose Review part connections in the context menu.
    All connections are listed in the Review dialog under Part connections.

  3. In the Project Tree under Assembly, select the battery.

    Connections between the selected parts will be listed in the Review dialog by default. You can change this by unchecking the connections between parts in list only option. The connections here are not well established; you will edit them in the next step.

Edit Connections

  1. In the Review dialog, select a connection and click Edit.

    The Add/Edit connection dialog will open. Gap and penetration tolerances and connection resolution setting are listed.

  2. In the dialog, set Gap and Penetration tolerances to 1.25mm and 0.5mm respectively.

  3. Click Find connections.
  4. Under Connections found, review the connection and click OK to accept.
  5. When prompted to replace existing connections, click Yes.
    All existing connections between selected parts are highlighted in red in the Project Tree and in the Review dialog.

  6. In the Review dialog, click Close.
