Mesh Quality

Mesh > Controls > Quality Controls

Introduction

This is one of the most powerful tool which decides the quality of mesh and this will directly influence the result of the FE analysis. Engineering analysis such as NVH, Crash, CFD, Aerospace, Drop test, etc requires a specific mesh criteria which has to meet certain set of mesh qualities.

Mesh quality tool is used to define the required qualities based on the type of Engineering analysis.

All element quality measures supported for Tri, Quad, Tet, Hex, Wedge and Pyramid element types are listed in the Mesh quality dialog. The user needs to select the required Qualities and the quality measures. The "Color" and "Limit Value" are editable. "Condition" is non-editable.

The order in which the element qualities are displayed in the table, reflects the priority of each element quality over the other. The priority could be modified by rearranging the element quality using "Move Up" and "Move Down" arrow. Display will reflect based on the priority in Quality Check New dialog.

Default mesh qualities

By default the following qualities will be created under Mesh Quality.
  1. Durability
  2. NVH
  3. Drop Test
  4. CFD
  5. OptiStructQuality
  6. AbaqusQuality
  7. LSDynaQuality
  8. Flux

Create

Create Option will open the mesh quality dialog to create new mesh quality specification.

Modify

If there is a need to modify the defined mesh quality, open the corresponding Mesh quality from Mesh control browser in modify mode. "Modify" option in the dialog is used to list all the quality measures. Turn ON the check box to add new qualities and turn OFF the check box to remove the qualities from the mesh quality specification. Also, the limit values could be modified.

Duplicate

Single or multiple mesh qualities could be duplicated. The option is available in Mesh Quality > Right click.

Delete

Single or multiple mesh qualities can be deleted. The option is available in Mesh Quality > Right click.

Import/Export

Import and Export of Mesh quality specification file is supported.

Unit support

The mesh quality specification file will be exported in same unit system as that of the database.

If the exported mesh quality specification file has units, it should be imported only into a database where unit system is set ON. When the unit system of mesh quality specification and database is different, then the values in mesh quality specification file will be automatically converted to database unit system.

If the exported mesh quality specification file does not have unit system, it should be imported only into the database which does not have unit system.
