Select Connected Faces
Dialog Box
Surfaces connected to an element, Surfaces connected to a face
These options identify closed regions, excluding non-manifold edges.
Select from visible faces
If this toggle is ON, the tool will consider only visible faces.
Example
Select an element or a face.
It will show the connected faces and make other faces as transparent. Users can create a group or a body for the shown faces.
The inverse of the above output is shown below for better understanding.
This tool is mainly used for the following purposes:
- The fluid volume in a manifold assembly can be extracted in a single click if
all the openings are closed.
- In CFD modeling, to extract the car body outer surfaces.
- It also helps in verifying whether the connected faces are watertight or not.
Bodies outer surfaces
This option extracts the outer faces of the given body. It will create two face groups, one for outer faces and another for inner faces.
Delete inner surfaces
If this toggle is ON, it will delete all the inner faces.
Example
Bodies inner surfaces
This option extracts the fluid flow surfaces of the given body. It will create a group for the identified inner faces.
Delete outer surfaces
If this toggle is ON, it will delete all the outer faces.
Example
Input body
The below image shows the extracted fluid flow surfaces for the input body:
