Get Started
Learn the basics and discover the workspace.
- User Interface
  Explore the user interface.
  - Title Bar
    The title bar displays the name of the file that is currently opened, along with the active product and user profile.
  - Pages and Windows
    The main display area of the user interface is called a page. Each page can contain up to 16 windows.
  - Ribbons
    The ribbon allows you to quickly access tools and standard functions, and is located along the top of the user interface. Click on an icon to open the related tool. Hovering over a group of icons may reveal additional tools.
  - Modeling Window
    The modeling window is where your model is displayed.
  - Status Bar
    The status bar displays information pertaining to the currently loaded model, active tools, current collectors, and snap filter options.
  - Toolbelt
    Use the toolbelt to quickly access frequently used tools.
  - Context Menus
    Context menus are floating menus that are accessed by right-clicking on elements in the user interface. They provides immediate access to a short list of commands that are contextually relevant to the selection.
  - Guide Bars
    Guide bars guide you through a series of commands, required inputs, and options necessary to complete a workflow that is specific to a tool.
  - Tcl Console
    The Tcl Console enables you to enter and execute Tcl/Tk commands instead of using the user interface.

      - Curve Editor
        Creates a curveEditor object.
      - Curve Related Functions
        Add
        Creates the curve on the given plot's page.
        Capture
        Captures the screen of the external window and saves it to a user-defined file.
        Clear
        Erases the content in the plot window.
        Delete
        Erases the curve in the plot page area.
        Fit
        Scales the x axis and/or the y axis to fit with the curve displayed.
        GetAttr
        Returns entity specific properties.
        GetCount
        Gets number of curves
        GetMeta
        Gets value associated with the corresponding metadata.
        GetType
        Returns the plot type.
        SetAttr
        Changes the curve and axes' properties.
        SetMeta
        Adds metadata on curve based on the given index.
        SetType
        Sets the plot type for curve editor.
        Show/Hide
        Shows or hides the legend. Value can be displayed on top of each bar for bar charts only.
    - Intellisense
      The Intellisense window allows you to quickly locate commands for a given handle, as well as their parameters.
  - HWC Console
    The HWC Console, with the command line, supports auto-completion and interactive help and allows easy modification and re-execution of commands.
  - Message Center
    The Message Center lists the actions performed in the current session. The dialog also provides you with information about your file (warnings, errors, and so on).
  - Command Files
    Command files can be used to create new command scripts that perform automation, or to recover previously performed steps.
  - Dock and Undock Parts of the User Interface
    Certain parts of the user interface, such as browsers, toolbars, and panels, can be undocked and repositioned as needed.
  - Altair^® Copilot (Beta)
    AI assistant for Altair HyperWorks.
- Adjust the View
  View controls enable you to control the view and display of your model in the modeling window.
- Find and Search for Tools
  Quickly find and open the tools and browsers that are available from the ribbons, as well as create entities and solver cards.
- Selection
  Select and deselect entities to modify with other tools. Selected entities are outlined to indicate their selection state.
- Snaps
  Use snap points to help align geometry.
- Move
  Translate, rotate, and align the model.
- Define Orientation
  Several tools require you to define a plane or a vector direction to perform a certain function, such as dragging geometry along a vector, spinning it about an axis, or splitting it with a plane. The Plane and Vector tools are used to define and edit planes and directions.
- Measures
  Use the Measure tool to measure length, angles, radii, areas, volumes, centers of gravity, and bounding boxes.

  Undo and redo actions.

Browsers
Browsers provide a structured view of model data, which you can use to review, modify, create, and manage the contents of a model. In addition to visualization, browsers offer features like search, filtering, and sorting, which enhance your ability to navigate and interact with the model data.

FE Geometry
FE geometry is topology on top of mesh, meaning CAD and mesh exist as a single entity. The purpose of FE geometry is to add vertices, edges, surfaces, and solids on FE models which have no CAD geometry.

GetAttr

Returns entity specific properties.

Syntax

<Curve Editor Object> GetAttr curve <Curve Id> <-name args>

<Curve Editor Object> GetAttr axis <axis identifier> <-name args>

Description

GetAttr is used to get the properties of the curve.

Arguments (for curves)

identifier: The entity (curve/axis) to edit properties for.
curve id: The index of the curve to edit properties for.
args: Various arguments to be passed as a -name.
visibility: Change the visibility of the curve.; True/false.
showlabelprefix: Show/hide the label prefix.; True/false.
labelprefix: Label prefix of the curve.
showlabel: Show/hide the name.; True/false.
label: Name of the curve.
showlabelsuffix: Show/hide the label suffix.; True/false.
labelsuffix: Label suffix of the curve.
linestyle: Line style index. Same index as shown in the property editor (0-indexed).
linecolor: Color index. Same index as shown in the property editor (0-indexed).
linethickness: Line thickness index. Same index as shown in the property editor (0-indexed)
shadearea: Turn on/off shading.; True/false.
symbolstyle: Symbol style for coordinates. Same index as shown in the property editor (0-indexed).
symbolcolor: The index of the color to be used for the symbol style (0 indexed).
symbolfrequency: Symbol frequency of the curve.
symbolsize: Sets the symbol thickness of the curve.
barstyle: Change bar style (only applies to the bar type plot).
barcolor: Changes the bar color (only applies to the bar type plot).

Arguments (for axes)

args: Various arguments to be passed as a -name value pairs.
visibility: Show/hide axis from the plot.; True/false.
text: Change the text displayed for the axis.
min: Change the minimum value of the axis.
max: Change maximum value of the axis.
ticsperaxis: Change the number of tics for the axis by giving the total number of tics.
gridspertic: Change the number of grids per tic.
reverse: Reverse the axis.; True/false.

Arguments (for plot)

barorientation: Vertical or horizontal for displaying the bar vertically or horizontally.

Returns

List of values corresponding to args passed.
