Create Sources
Use the Sources tools to specify a collection of body forces (heat, momentum, or species) within solid bodies.
Create Heat Sources
Use the Sources: Heat tool to define heat sources per unit volume or per unit mass for the energy equation.
-
From the Flow ribbon, click the tool.
- Select solids.
-
In the microdialog, select a definition.
For Per Unit Volume and Per Unit Mass, define a function type as well.
-
Define the heat source.
Option Method Constant Enter a heat source value. Linear, Cubic Spline, Piecewise Linear - Click .
- In the dialog, select a variable from the Varying motion basis drop-down menu.
- Use the table and plot area to input data.
User Function - Click .
- In the dialog, enter a function expression.
- Select an argument from the drop-down menu.
- Use the table to input data.
Total Power Total power generated by all selected solids. Enter a constant value.
-
From the guide bar, execute the command in the following
ways:
- Click to confirm your selection and remain in the
tool.
This allows you to continue creating instances and helps you visualize and edit instances with the legend.
- Click to confirm your selection and exit the tool.
- Click to confirm your selection and remain in the
tool.
Create Momentum Sources
Use the Sources: Momentum tool to set up body forces applied to the momentum equation.
You can use this tool to define a body force locally for any solid body, apart from global gravity.
-
From the Flow ribbon, click the tool.
- Select solids.
-
In the microdialog, select a type and define the
momentum source.
Option Method Constant Enter values for the components of the momentum source. Linear and Cubic Spline - Click .
- In the dialog, define the X axis using the Curve fit variable drop-down menu.
- Use the table and plot area to input data.
Tip: Click the X-source, Y-source, and Z-source options beneath the plot to toggle their visibility.User Function - Click .
- In the dialog, enter a function expression.
- Select an argument from the drop-down menu.
- Use the table to input data.

tool.
Create Species Sources
Use the Sources: Species tool to define species sources per unit volume or per unit mass for a species transport equation.
-
From the Flow ribbon, click the tool.
- Select solids.
- In the microdialog, select a definition and a type.
-
Define the species source.
Option Method Constant Enter values for each species concentration. Linear, Cubic Spline, Piecewise Linear - Click .
- In the dialog, define the X axis using the Curve fit variable drop-down menu.
- Use the table and plot area to input data.
