Generate Streamlines on Surfaces

Use the Surface Streamlines tool to create streamlines on surfaces with given seeds.

  1. From the Post ribbon, click the Surface Streamlines tool.
    Figure 1.

  2. Select surfaces on which to generate seeds.
Tip: Click to select surfaces "By Boundaries" or "By Surface Outputs".
  3. Click Seeds on the guide bar.
  4. Define the generation method.
    • For the random and uniform methods, enter the number of seeds to insert.
    • For the manual method, click on the surfaces to insert seed points.
    • For any of the seed positioning methods, click on an individual seed point to edit its location.
  5. Define optional attributes:
    1. Define the vector variable.
    2. Define the offset option, which is used to offset the velocity vector and requires an offset distance.
    3. Optional: Define the offset distance.
    4. Define the streamline direction.
    5. Define the display radius.
  6. Click Calculate to generate streamlines.
A new Surface Streamline entity is added to the Post Browser,
  7. Define the streamline display properties.
    1. Streamline style is provided to allow for the selection of two streamline style types:
      • Lines
      • Spheres with tails
Note: Spheres with tails support additional options to define the entity style, accessed by clicking the menu dialog.
        • Sphere radius: radius of the spheres, in model units
        • Tail radius: radius of the tails, in model units
        • Tail length: length of the tails, in model units
        • Sphere spacing: spacing distance between spheres, in model units
  8. On the guide bar, click to confirm your selection and remain in the tool or click to confirm your selection and exit the tool.

Animate Surface Streamlines

  1. Create surface streamline representation(s).
  2. Once a surface streamline representation is created, right-click on it in the Post Browser and select Animate.
  3. Use the toolbar at the bottom of the modeling window to control the animation.
The animation creates a proxy time to sweep through with the min and max automatically computed.

Click to adjust the time steps, select the animation speed, or display vectors only.
