Correction of geometric defects: about

Modes of correction of defects

The correction of defects can be carried out in two ways:

  • automatically: using algorithms of correction / simplification of the geometry
  • manually: using specific tools

Automatic correction

The automatic correction enables to correct the following geometric defects:

  • superimposed points
  • superimposed lines
  • intersection line-line
  • intersection line-face
Note: The automatic correction is planned especially for the 2D geometry, the result in 3D is not guaranteed.

Automatic simplification

The simplification is used to simplify or "reduce" the geometry. The algorithm of automatic simplification removes some lines and points by assembling the lines of the same type.

Only the lines of the following types can be fused:

  • segments located on the tangent of the straight lines
  • arcs of circle having the same angle of curve

Manual correction

The manual correction is used:

  • on the one hand to correct the geometric defects by defect type
  • on the other hand to simplify the geometry manually

The commands of manual correction for each defect are presented in the table below.

To correct the geometric defect … use the software command … Expected result

Intersection line-line (particular case)

Cut a line on a point

Cutting of the line with the insertion of the new point

Intersection line-line (general case)

Cut two lines on their intersection

Cutting of two lines and insertion of the new point

Entirely superimposed lines:

Partially superimposed lines:

Cut two lines on their intersection

Cutting and confusion of the lines

Open wire

Extend line to point /

Extend line to line

Closing of contour by prolongation of a line and suppression of a point

Abnormal line No software command *

Abnormal line

(value fixed by the user)

Reduce continuous lines in one line

Fusion of the lines in one line

Abnormal face No software command *

Abnormal face

(value fixed by the user)

Merge two lists of lines

Confusion of the lines and removal of the face

Note: * To correct the geometric defects of abnormal line / face type, the user must decrease absolute precision by reducing relative precision (relative epsilon).

Types of fusion

There are 3 reduce types for the command Reduce continuous lines in one line:

  • Automatic
  • Arc
  • Segment

The choice of the reduce type depends on the types of lines. Some precautions concerning the choice of the reduce type and the type of lines to be reduced are necessary to preserve the geometry of the device.

Some examples of fusion with the different types of fusion are presented in the table below.

To reduce … use the reduce type … Expected result

Automatic / Segment

Creation of a new line of the Segment type replacing two lines of the Segment type

a line of the Segment type and a line of the Arc type Arc

Creation of a new line of the Arc of circle type replacing two lines of the Segment and Arc types

a line of the Segment type and a line of the Arc type

Segment

Creation of a new line of the Segment type replacing two lines of the Arc and Segment types
