EDEM 2020 Linear Elastic Bonding Model Unconfined Compression
This tutorial describes additional options and models of EDEM, focusing on how to use the Linear Elastic Bonding Model (LEBM) with Volume Packing.
Objective
- Use the LEBM
- Set up and defining the particle contact radius
- Use Volume Packing
- Display and analyze the bonds between particles
- The Bonding V2 Model
The Bonding V2 model is an additional model that can be added to any Base model and is used for modeling rock and flexible materials. At a set point in time, or on particle creation, bonds are created between particle elements. The bonds apply normal and tangential forces to the particle in addition to rotational torque. Forces and torques are applied up to a user defined limit after which the bond will break. For more information about the Bonding V2 model, see Bonding V2 Model.
- The Linear Elastic Bonding Model (LEBM)
The LEBM, an alternative to the Bonding V2 model, is a combined model which contains the base physics in addition to the bonding forces and is used for modeling rock and soil type materials.
At the start of the simulation, bonds are created between the particle and apply normal and tangential (shear) forces to the bonded particles, up to the pre-defined bond strength limits. For more information about the LEBM, see Linear Elastic Bonding Model (LEBM).
