Polygons

Sketch and edit a parallelogram or a regular polygon.

Sketch a Parallelogram

Sketch a parallelogram.

  1. On the ribbon, click the Sketching tab.
  2. Click the Parallelogram icon.

  3. Set the sketch plane:
    • Click one of the default sketch planes: Top, Front, or Right.
    • Click the planar face of an object.
  4. Sketch a parallelogram:
    • Drag to define the first side, and then click to define the opposite side.
    • Click twice to define the first side, and then click a third time to define the opposite side.
  5. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Edit a Parallelogram

Reposition, resize, or apply a sketch constraint.

  1. Double-click the parallelogram to enter edit mode.
  2. Edit the parallelogram:
    To Do this
    Reposition a point
    • Drag the point.
    • Click the point, and then type the X, Y, and Z coordinates.
    Reposition a line
    • Click the line, and then drag it.
    • Click the line, and then type an Angle.
    Resize a line
    • Drag an end point.
    • Click the line, and then type a Length.
Apply a sketch constraint Click the sketch curve, and then select a sketch constraint on the microdialog.
Convert a sketch curve into construction geometry Click the sketch curve, and then select Construction.

Construction geometry is used as a reference to line up or define other geometry.

  3. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Sketch a Regular Polygon

Sketch a regular polygon.

  1. On the ribbon, click the Sketching tab.
  2. Click the Regular Polygon icon.

  3. Set the sketch plane:
    • Click one of the default sketch planes: Top, Front, or Right.
    • Click the planar face of an object.
  4. In the guide bar, type the number of Sides.
    The default number is 5.
  5. To display the circumscribed or inscribed circle, select one of the following options:
    • No circle
    • Inscribed circle
    • Circumscribed circle (default)
    • Inscribed and circumscribed circle
  6. Sketch a polygon:
    • Drag to define the first side, and then click to define the opposite side.
    • Click twice to define the first side, and then click a third time to define the opposite side.
  7. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Edit a Regular Polygon

Reposition, resize, or apply a sketch constraint.

  1. Double-click the regular polygon to enter edit mode.
  2. Edit the regular polygon:
    To Do this Note
    Scale
    • Drag one of the sides.
    • Drag the circumscribed or inscribed circle.

Rotate Drag one of the vertices.
    Translate Drag the center.
    Select the chain or endpoints
    1. Select one or more sketch curves.
    2. Right-click the selection, and then select Select the chain or Select the endpoints.

Cut, copy, or paste the sketch curve
    1. Select one or more sketch curves.
    2. Right-click the selection, and then select Cut, Copy, Paste, or Paste without constraints.

Apply a sketch constraint Click the sketch curve, and then select a sketch constraint on the microdialog. To hide constraints, right-click, and then deselect Show constraints.
Convert a sketch curve into construction geometry Click the sketch curve, and then select Construction. Construction geometry is used as a reference to line up or define other geometry.

To hide construction geometry, right-click, and then deselect Show construction geometry.

Hide dimensions Right-click, and then deselect Show dimensions.
  3. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.
