Create and Edit Rectangles

Use the Rectangles tool to create rectangles for geometry construction, edit free rectangles, and create/toggle filled rectangles.

New rectangles are organized in the same component as the entity where the center point is placed.

When there is ambiguity, the Rectangles tool switches between possible inferred normals.

  1. From the Geometry ribbon, Shapes tool group, click the Rectangles tool.
    Figure 1.
  2. Draw a rectangle.
    1. Left-click on geometry or in space to create the rectangle's corner point.
    2. Move your mouse to draw the rectangle's width and height.
    3. Left-click to create the rectangle.
    Tip:
    • Hold Ctrl to draw the rectangle from center.
    • Hold Shift to draw a square.
  3. Modify the size and location of the rectangle in the following ways:
    • Edit the width and height in the microdialogs and press Enter.
    • Click to translate and rotate the rectangle using the Move tool.
    • Click to fill the shape.
    • Click to imprint lines.
  4. Double-click on a free rectangle to edit its dimensions.
Tip:
  • Clicking over a free line in space creates a rectangle on the line, normal to the line direction. Clicking over a line on top of a surface creates a rectangle on the line, but normal to the surface. Clicking in empty space creates a rectangle aligned with global coordinates.
  • Use snap points to snap to pre-defined points on your model such as end, middle, center, and intersection points.
