Sketch and edit slots.

Sketch a Slot

Sketch a slot by defining the start and end points, mid and end points, arc center and end points, or three arc points.

  1. On the Sketch ribbon, select one of the Slots tools.

  2. Select a face or plane as the sketch plane.
  3. Sketch a slot:
    To sketch this Do this
    Slot by 2 Points
    Figure 2.

Click to set the end points of the slot, and then click to set the width of the slot.
    Midpoint Slot
    Figure 3.

Click to set the midpoint and end of the slot, and then click to set the width of the slot.
Arc Slot by Center and Ends
    Figure 4.

Click to set the center of the circle that defines the slot, click to set the end points of the slot, and then click to set the width of the slot.
    Arc Slot by 3 Points
    Figure 5.

Click to set the end points of the slot, click to set the radius at the middle of the slot, and then click to set the width of the slot.
Tip: Select the Create Dimension checkbox to automatically create dimension constraints with the slot:

The center line of the slot is created as construction geometry.
  4. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Edit a Slot

Reposition, resize, or apply a sketch constraint to a slot.

  1. Edit the slot:
    To Do this
    Reposition a slot
    • Select the line and drag it, or
    • Reposition the end points.
Adjust the length of a slot
    • Drag the point if there is no dimension, or
    • Select the line, then enter a dimension to specify the length.
Adjust the width of a slot Select the end curve and then enter a dimension to specify the width, or drag the arc end point if there is no dimension for the width.
Change the diameter Select the sketch curve, then enter a radius.
Apply a sketch constraint Right-click a sketch curve, then select a sketch constraint on the context menu.
Convert a sketch curve into construction geometry Right-click a sketch curve, then select Construction.

Construction geometry is used as a reference to line up or define other geometry.

Hide dimensions Deselect Show dimensions in the Preferences.
  2. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.
