Assignment of regions: completion and modification modes

Assign a region (completion mode)

To assign a face (volume) region to the faces (volumes) using the completion mode:

Step Action

Activate the command:

  • in the Physics menu place the pointer on Assign regions to geometric entities and click on

    Assign regions to faces (completion mode) / Assign regions to volumes (completion mode)
→ An assignment box is open.

Fill out the fields in the assignment box:

  • enter the desired faces / volumes
  • choose the desired face / volume region

Validate the information:

  • click on OK
→ The region is assigned to geometric entity; the entity concerned is made invisible.
→ An assignment box is automatically open.
4 Repeat these operations (steps 2 et 3) until the group of faces is assigned to the face regions (or the group of volumes is assigned to the volume regions)

Visibility of geometric entities

In the completion mode, the visibility of geometric entities makes easy the assignment process.

During the assignment process:

The faces (or volumes) are made invisible during their assignment. Only the items that do not belong yet to a region are visible in the graphic area.

After the assignment process:

The faces (or volumes) are again visible. One of the following messages informs the user that the assignment process is complete.

*** No entity for assignRegionToVolumes ***

Assign a region (modification mode)

To assign a region (volume, face, line or point region) to geometric entities (volumes, faces, lines or points) using the modification mode:

Activate the command:

  • in the Physics menu point on Assign regions to geometric entities and click on

    Assign regions to points /

    Assign regions to lines /

    Assign regions to faces (modification mode) /

    Assign regions to volumes (modification mode)
→ An assignment box is open.

Fill out the fields in the assignment box:

  • enter the desired points / lines / faces / volumes
  • choose the desired point / line / face / volume region

Validate the information:

  • click on OK
→ The region is assigned.
→ An assignment box is automatically open.

Quit the sequence:

  • click on Cancel

Modify the affiliation of a geometric entity

To modify the affiliation of a geometric entity to a region, it is also possible to directly modify this geometric entity.

For each entity type (Point, Face, Line and/or Volume), this type of modification is described in the correspondent section and summarized in the table below.

Step Action
1 Open the properties sheet of the desired geometric entity (volume, face, line or point)
2 Select the Region tab
3 Choose the desired region from the proposed list

The NONE option (blank space) in the list of proposed regions allows us to assign no region to the corresponding geometric entity.
