Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
EDEM Simulator
EDEM Simulator is a powerful solver used for fast and efficient simulations.

What's New

This section provides an overview of the main new features in EDEM version 2026 and highlights key updates.

Settings

You can now set a default gravity value in Tools > Options dialog box, making it easier to use custom gravity directions or values.

Analyst

New attributes are available in Analyst, including Particle Aspect Ratio, Acceleration, Scale, and Mass Scale. You can also export selected Geometries to STL files.

API

API versions before 3.0 are deprecated. Coordination numbers and Geometry details are now accessible in more Plugin functions. The Factory API is updated for consistency and easier use.

Coupling

EDEM-OptiStruct Coupling now allows you to specify the port number for connections.

EDEMpy

EDEMpy 1.9.0 adds a particle acceleration attribute, improves property list handling, and updates Python to version 3.10.

Contact Models

The Wet Mixing model is deprecated. The Heat Conduction model now supports per-element heat tracking and is compatible with EDEM-OptiStruct Coupling.
