Flux e-Machine Toolbox: Tests

Running a test

Once the input parameters have been defined, the user can:

List of tests

Once the test running is done, the test appears at the bottom right. Several tests can be run on a same component, in this case they are listed:

Actions on a test

The possible actions on a test run are:

  • Display:

Display the test results by double-clicking on it or by right click → Display

A tab with the name of the test is added in the central area, and it is possible to navigate easily using the filters on the left

  • Close:

Close the display of a test by clicking on the cross of the tab or by right-click → Close

  • Delete:

Delete a test by selecting it in the list and by clicking on or by a right-click → Delete

  • Export:

    Export a test:
    • by selecting it from the list and choosing the post-process from the functions in the ribbon bar above.

    • or by selecting it in the list and by clicking on
    • or by a right-click on it and by selecting ni the contextual menu→ Export

  • Quick run with new parameters

    • by selecting the test from the list and choosing the desired export from the functions in the ribbon bar above.

    • or by selecting it in the list and by clicking on

    • or by a right-click → Quick Run

  • Resume: Resume a failed test by right click → Resume

Test states

A test can have 4 states:

  • : the test is successful
  • : the test is in progress
  • : the test was failed or was interrupted during the Flux computation and this test is potentially resumable
  • : the test is failed and it's impossible to resume the computation

Export a test

A test can be exported in 3 different formats:

  • pdf format for a report (equivalent to all the content of the central area)

  • html format for a report (equivalent to all the content of the central area)
  • txt format to post-process data (a text file by quantity)
  • mat format to export Lookup tables for PSIM or Altair Twin Activate software

This allows you to create a System model of your complete drive systems including power electronics and your motor that is represented by an usual speed and current control Reduced Order Model that uses Look Up Table parameters (Flux_D, Flux_Q, inductances, ...).

The mat export is available if the following two conditions are met:
    • The test has been computed with the MS-mono-position computation mode.
Note: With the TM computation mode, the mat export is not available, but it is possible to change the computation mode and choose the MS mono-position computation mode, then run the test again.
    • The test has been run with a FeMT version greater than or equal to 2023.0.
Note: If the test was run with a version prior to 2023.0, it is possible to re-run the test with a FeMT version greater than or equal to 2023.0.
Note: With the MS mono-position computation mode:
The iron losses and the eddy current losses are not computed. The two corresponding maps are therefore not available.
    • For the html and pdf exports, the two maps of iron losses and eddy current losses appear black.
    • For the txt export, the two . txt files of iron losses and eddy current losses are not generated.
    • For the mat export, two files are created:
      • A .mat file is created. It contains the lookup tables except the two lookup tables for iron losses and eddy current losses, which are not exported.
      • A .oml file is created. It allows to display in Altair Compose the lookup tables except the two lookup tables for iron losses and eddy current losses, which cannot be displayed.

Resume an interrupted test

During Altair Flux e-Machine Toolbox computations, it happens that Flux fails (for example because of a lack of memory). In some cases we are able to resume it.

A test is resumable if a crash of Flux happens during the solving stage:

When a test fails and is resumable, a new error dialog is displayed, explaining that is possible to resume this test.

A failed test during Flux computations is identified with the icon if it is resumable.

To try to resume the test right-click on the test and choose Resume:

After clicking on “Resume” menu item, computations will restart from the last solved step.

Restriction: If a test fails again after resuming, and no step has been solved since resuming, then Altair Flux e-Machine Toolbox will consider it is a definitively failed test and it will not be resumable again.
