Numbering Rule Management

Manage the numbering rules for five numberings – UPMS CPN, UDMS design project number, ASSY PCB number, PBA number, and UBMS BOM variant number.

  1. Add: Add a new numbering rule which will be used in UDE system.
You can specify the numbering rules.
    • Chose the purpose for creating the numbering rule.
    • Type your appropriate rule name for distinguishing other same purpose rule. This name will be separator to select and activate rules, so every rule name is unique.
  2. The numbering rule for user can be defined using the following parts:
    • prefix - The prefix is used as the first separator of number. You can set this with the manual typing, and date form.

In addition, the product family code can be used for the prefix if the numbering rule purpose is ‘UPMS CPN Generation’. The prefix is required information to make a rule.

If you want to add some prefixes, you can add prefixes by clicking ‘+’ button beside the prefix title.
      • If you choose ‘Manual input’, a box is generated on the right side of the first select box. If you select ‘Manual input’ for the prefix, you can input the any character or number.
      • If you want to date as the prefix, you would select the date type as the prefix.

If you click the ‘-’ button on the right side, the prefix is deleted.

    • increment - The increment takes charge of increasing the sequence number. If you have used any numbering rule ever in any function of the UDE and the user uses the function, the numbering function will create an increased number by the rule of this increment. The four items to set increment are:
      • Type - There are two options for the type – number or alphabet. It determines whether the increment is created by number or alphabet. If it is the number, it will be generated like 1, 2, 3, … but if it is the alphabet, it will be made like A, B, C…
      • Digit - Digit sets the limit of the increment. It determines how many digits of the increment. For example, if you set the digit as five of a number, The initialized value will be like ‘00001’. And if the digit is seven, the initialized value will be changed like ‘0000001’. You can only type the number on this item.
      • Start - Start means that it is the initialized increment value. If you set that ‘Start’ is ‘10’ and ‘Digit’ is ‘5’, the initialized increment will be started as ‘00010’. You can only type the number or alphabet on this item, and it depends on the increment type.
      • Unit - The last component ‘unit’ means how much number is increased for each generation. For example, if unit is ‘3’, the number will be increased like 1, 4, 7, … or A, E, I, …. You can only type the number on this item also.
    • postfix - The postfix is the last one and it is used as the second separator of the number. Postfix is an option of the numbering rule. If you need it, you can input the special keyword as the postfix. But if not, you can skip without setting the postfix.

Whenever you set the numbering rule on each setting, you can see the sample like the below image. The sample is the initialized value for you to use. So, you can set the rule item if you set it wrongly.

  3. Delete: Delete the selected numbering rule.

The numbering rule is not deleted in the system; it remains as a hidden item and the Hidden status is changed to Y.

  4. Permanent Deletion: Delete the selected numbering rule permanently.

Note: Deleted numbering rule cannot be restored after permanent deletion.
  5. Activate: Activate button makes activated the selected rule. One numbering rule of each purpose can be activated. If you select some numbering rule has the same purpose, selected all numbering rule are not activated with the alert message. It means the rule is activated that ‘In use’ is ‘Y’.
    CAUTION:
If you modify critical rule information(prefix/increment/postfix) while using this rule, the numbering will be started from the first of the rule.
  6. Restore: Restore selected hidden numbering rule.

The Hidden status changes to N after numbering rule are restored.

  7. Content order: Change the display order of the numbering rule. After specifying the order of the numbering rule, click Content Order to apply.

  8. Click the name of a numbering rule to change the detailed information of that numbering rule.
