Measure Distance Tool

Use the Measure Distance tool to measure the distance between two entities.

Using the Measure Distance tool, you can calculate the shortest distance between surfaces, solids, lines, points and nodes. You will select both the entity measured from and measured to.

  1. From the Home tools, hover the mouse over the Measure tool and then click the Measure Distance icon.

  2. Select the entity to be measured from.
    1. Click the left-hand entity button to open the entity type selection dropdown menu. At default, the button says Surfaces.
    2. Select the type of entity from the dropdown menu.

      Click to open the Advanced Selection dialog to perform filtered entity search.
    3. On the model, click to select the entity to be measured from.
      The number of selected entities appears beside the entity button, e.g. Surfaces (1).
    Note: Click the button to deselect the highlighted entity.
  3. Select the entity to be measured to.
    1. Click the right-hand entity button and select the type of entity from the dropdown menu.
    2. On the model, click to select the entity to be measured to.
  4. Press the Get Distance button to calculate the distance between the entities.
    Results are reported in a dialog.
