Units
Units are supported for geometry and case setup for all solutions. You can switch units by utilizing the global unit selector, found in the bottom right corner of the session window.

Learn the basics and discover the workspace.
- Platform Support
  Platforms, operating systems, and processors supported by Altair HyperWorks 2026 products, which includes 2026 solver packages.

Units

Units are supported for geometry and case setup for all solutions. You can switch units by utilizing the global unit selector, found in the bottom right corner of the session window.

Global Unit Selector Interaction

In the global unit selector, you can select the unit used for the model in the session.
On changing the unit:
- Geometry, Surface Mesh and Volume Mesh will be scaled accordingly
- Setup will be scaled according
- All widgets will be scaled according
On saving the hmcfd file, the current unit will be saved and upon re-opening the file, the selected unit will be preserved.

Opening files without unit information (old session files, .hmcfd, .hm without unit, solver deck files, stl files):

The model will fit to the screen, and a window will appear asking you to set a unit.
The file will be imported in same dimensions and the selected unit will be set.
After import, unit conversion now works as mentioned in Global unit selector.

Opening CAD files:

The CAD file Open dialog provides the option to select the desired unit system. Opening CAD files will set the global unit to what is selected in the CAD import/open dialog.

In case setup:

In all fields where units are supported, default values will be in the current unit system. Values in any relevant unit field value will be converted to the current unit system upon pressing enter.
For example, if the current unit system is MKS, a mass flow of 0.4409 lb/s value will change to 0.2 kg/s upon pressing enter.

Units Not Supported

Note: There are tools where units are not supported, meaning you will not see units while entering the value. In those tools, values entered are in the current global unit.
