Rigid-Flex PCB

Verification items related to Rigid-Flex PCB 1, Rigid-Flex 2, and Semi-Flex.

  • Solder Mask Layer Definition: Select the solder mask layers for the top and bottom side.
    • Top
    • Bottom
  • Flexible area Definition:
    • Layer for Flexible area: Define the figure layer where the Flexible area is drawn.
    • Transition area definition from Flexible area: Set the extension value to recognize the transition area from the Flexible area.
  • Checking
    • Rigid-Flex / Semi-Flex
      • Transition area: Verification items in the Rigid-Flex Transition area.
        • Minimum PCB Outline radius between Rigid and Flexible area: Check the minimum PCB outline radius at the point where rigid and flex areas meet, it is fail if smaller than the input value.
        • Solder Mask clearance to Rigid PCB Outline: Check the PCB outline and solder mask (S/R) clearance within the transition area, it is fail if smaller than the input value.
        • Straight and Parallel Patterns within the Flex and Transition area: Check the pattern remains straight and parallel in the flex area, including the transition area. (Route patterns only).
      • Maximum number of Copper Layers for the Flexible Layer: Check the maximum number of flexible layers, if the copper layer passing through the flex area exceeds the entered quantity, it is fail.
      • Maximum Copper Thickness for the Flexible Layer : Check the maximum copper thickness of the layer corresponding to the flexible layer, if it is thicker than the input value, it is fail.
      • Existence check for single solid copper plane on Outer Layer Minimum solid copper plane ratio: Check the existence of solid copper plane on the outer layer of the flexible area. If the solid copper plane area ratio is less than the input value, it is fail. (Semi-Flex PCB only).
      • Thicker or equal copper thickness of the Outer layer than the Inner layer: Check whether the Outer Layer Copper thickness is thicker or equal to the Inner Layer Copper, if the Outer Layer Copper is thinner than the Inner Layer Copper, it is fail. (Semi-Flex PCB only).
      • Existence check for Reinforcing Copper: Check for the existence of Reinforcing Copper from the edges of the flexible area.
        • Minimum Width: Among the copper objects (Pattern, Copper Polygon, Board Figure Copper) closest to the PCB Outline in the flexible area, if they meet the Minimum Width value, they are recognized as Reinforcing Copper.
        • Extend into Rigid PCB area: Check the Reinforcing Copper extends into the Rigid area. If it's less than the input value, it is fail.
