Design Explorer
Evaluate designs by using geometric variables and applying a design-of-experiments (DOE) or optimization method. We recommend fully constraining your sketch when sketch variables are used in the design exploration.
- Variables
  Create and assign variables to parametrize a model. This allows you to quickly iterate and compare design concepts by tweaking the values of the variables.
- Open the Design Explorer Browser
  The Design Explorer Browser displays a hierarchical view of your design setup and can be used to enable and disable exploration parameters.
- Explorations
  An exploration is a DOE or optimization simulation. Each exploration must include design variables and responses. Optimizations must also include an objective and optionally constraints.
- Design Variables
  Design variables are changes of the geometric variables that influence the performance of certain analyses. Geometric variables may be sketch dimensions, lengths, angles, or push/pulls. Geometric constraints are minimum and maximum values for the defined variables. These constraints are specified in the Design Variable tab and the variable's value will vary within the exploration.
- Responses
  An output response is a measurement of system performances, such as mass, volume, displacement, or stress.

    Create output responses for the entire model, points, or individual parts.
  - Manage Responses
    Use the List Responses tool to display the Responses table, where you can create new responses, review all responses, and edit their names and properties in one place.
- Goals
  Goals comprise objectives and constraints.
- Evaluate
  Use the Evaluate tools to run the exploration and review reports.
Manufacture
Set up and run a basic porosity or thinning analysis.
Print 3D
Prepare and run an additive manufacturing simulation, and export a file for 3D printing.
Rendering
Adjust the materials and environment of objects in the scene to create a photorealistic image.

Manage Responses

Use the List Responses tool to display the Responses table, where you can create new responses, review all responses, and edit their names and properties in one place.

From the Design Explorer ribbon, select the List Responses tool .

Tip: To find and open a tool, press Ctrl+F. For more information, see Find and Search for Tools.

You are now in the Responses step of the Design Explorer workflow.

You can do the following:


To	Do this
Activate/deactivate a response for the active exploration	Next to the desired response, turn on/off the Active option.
Change the response type	In the corresponding row, click the Response type, and then select a different one: Mass Volume Stress Displacement
Change the component type	Click the corresponding Component cell, and then select a different type.
Change the request type	Click the corresponding Request Type cell, and then select a different type. Maximum (Absolute Value): Displays the absolute value of a response. For example, the absolute value of -3 or 3 is 3. First Value: Shows the first value for time-based analysis responses such as topology optimization. Last Value: Shows the last value for time-based analysis responses such as topology optimization. Maximum: Displays the largest value of a response. Mean: Displays the average of a range of responses. Minimum: Displays the smallest value of a response.
Create a new response	Click the Create a response icon. The guide bar is displayed. See Create Responses for next steps.
Rename a response	Double-click the current name, and then type the new name.
Show/hide callouts	Click the Show/hide callouts icon.
Delete a response	Right-click the corresponding row, and then select Delete.
