Sessions
Altair One offers access to the latest Altair Applications through remote desktop sessions, without downloads and installations.
There are multiple ways to initiate sessions and launch applications in Altair One:
Dashboard: You can quickly access your favorite applications from the Altair One Dashboard. Launching an application from the Dashboard initiates a session and opens the chosen application. Alternatively, the New Session option on the dashboard launches a remote desktop session with quick links to all your favorite applications. These sessions are created within the default Altair-managed Session App.
Altair Drive: When the inbuilt 3D viewer doesn’t suffice, you can directly open files from Altair Drive using the Open With menu option. This option combines three steps: session initiation on the selected appliance, application launch, and file opening within the application.
You can use this feature to open files with their corresponding applications. The applications available for use are those that support the required interactivity and that you have access to. The default Sessions App includes all interactive applications, but other Altair One NavOps appliances are filtered based on the availability of the required application and added to the Appliance drop-down.
Altair Marketplace: Interactive applications on the Altair Marketplace have a launch icon for quick access. Launching an application from the marketplace creates a session in the default Session App and opens the application. Altair One Dashboard provides information about the active sessions. Note that the application version on the Altair Marketplace tile may differ from the latest version available for download.
- Users can launch a maximum of three sessions on the default Sessions application provided by the Altair HPC Admin.
- Each session on a Graphic Base node uses the HWGraphicBase. 15 Altair Units with HWGraphicBase license feature. Software used within the session will have additional license checkout as per software license policy.
- Altair Drive is automatically mounted in the Session, with a desktop shortcut for accessing your files conveniently. Always save data to Altair Drive for future use and for an easy access.
- Remote sessions on the Session app run on Standard_NV12s_v3 (12 cores/112Gb Memory) Azure with the Windows 2016 Server operating system, supporting a maximum of two sessions per node.
- Closing a browser tab doesn't terminate the session; use the terminate option from the Settings menu to terminate it and check in the units.
- Session can be terminated from the launched application session, Altair One Dashboard, or from the Access Job where the session was active.
- Terminating a session without closing the application may keep the checkout active for up to 15 minutes and will check in after detecting the heartbeat. The admin can force check-in from the license Dashboard to reconcile any discrepancies between checkout and utilization. Units with utilization will be checked out again if needed.
