Download Certificates from Web Browsers

You can obtain the certificate files if an IT administrator is unavailable. However, it is not the preferred or recommended approach for acquiring certificates.

Commands for different Inspire versions:
  • C:\Altair_Development\<HM_Version>\common\jre\jre11.0.21\win64\jre\bin\keytool.exe" -importcert -alias your_alias_name -keystore
  • C:\Altair_Development\<HM_Version>\common\jre\jre11.0.21\win64\jre\lib\security\cacerts" - storepass changeit -file \\server_path\folder\certificate_name.pem -noprompt
In the command, replace <HM_Version>, your_alias_name, and certificate_name.pem as appropriate.
  1. Download certificates from Google Chrome.
    1. Open Google Chrome and navigate to the website from which you want to download the certificate.
    2. On the left of the address bar, click .
      Note: For older versions of Google Chrome, you may need to select the padlock icon.
    3. In the dropdown menu, select Connection is secure and then Certificate is valid.
      Note: The selections may be slightly different depending on the version of Google Chrome being used.

    4. In the Certificate Viewer dialog, click the Details tab.
    5. Click Export at the bottom of the dialog.
      The Save As dialog opens.
    6. In the Save As dialog, select a location to save the file, select the export file format, and click Save.
      Choose Base-64 encoded ASCII, certificate chain (*.pem;*.crt) for common use cases, or DER encoded binary, single certificate (*.der) if needed.
  2. Download Certificates from Mozilla Firefox.
    1. Open Firefox and navigate to the website from which you need to download the certificate.
    2. On the left of the address bar, click .
    3. In the dropdown menu, click Connection secure and then More Information depending on the browser version.
      The Page Info dialog opens
    4. In the Page Info dialog, open the Security tab and click View Certificate.
    5. In the Certificate Viewer, click the Details tab.
    6. Click Export button to save the certificate.
    7. Select the format you want (e.g., X.509 Certificate with chain (.PEM) or DER encoded certificate).
    8. Save the certificate to your desired location.
  3. Download Certificates from Microsoft Edge.
    1. Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the website whose certificate you need.
    2. On the left of the address bar, click .
    3. In the dropdown menu, click Connection is secure and then .
      The Certificate Viewer dialog opens with the certificate details.
    4. In the Certificate Viewer dialog, click the Details tab.
    5. Click Export at the bottom.
      The Save As dialog opens.
    6. In the Save As dialog, select a location to save the file, select the export file format (for example, Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER) or DER encoded binary X.509 (.CER)), and click Save.
