Performing a study with field - circuit coupling

Introduction

A study with field - circuit coupling is performed in the same way as a “classical” study.

Two supplementary stages are added to the usual performing. These are listed in the table below.

With the dedicated context Circuit editor … (Phase 1)

The graphic description of the electric circuit is carried out within the dedicated circuit editor integrated in Flux.

The user can construct his circuit graphically: component, connections, … and save his scheme in a specific file.

All the characteristics of any components can be modified or defined both at this level and during phase 2, as one chooses.

The validity of the circuit description relies on the good circuit connectivity.

In the standard context of Physics … (Phase 2)

The links between the finite element domain and the electrical circuit are defined in the standard Physics context.

The components related to the field - circuit coupling are represented twice:

  • once in the electrical circuit:
  • components of stranded conductor type
  • components of solid conductor type
  • once in the finite elements domain:
  • regions of stranded conductor type (or non-meshed coils in 3D)
  • regions of solid conductor type

The user must “link” the conducting regions of the finite element domain with the corresponding components of the electrical circuit.

All the characteristics of any components can be either modified or defined both at this level and during phase 1, as one chooses.

Export possibility

The circuit can be exported in standard XML format. This file takes into consideration:

  • the circuit description which has been done
  • the defined characteristics of each component

By importing of this file, the same circuit can thus be used for different modeling conditions:

  • different applications (Magneto Harmonic, Transient Magnetic), with various sources (sinusoidal, trapezoidal)
  • different commands of components, …
Note: * on condition that all the circuit components should be accepted by the new application in any circuit which is imported.
